The Louvre is home to a host of different activities and specialisms. Most of its 2,000 staff, including curators, visitor services personnel etc., are public-sector employees. A range of other services, from electrical maintenance to graphic design and fire prevention, are contracted out.

Services, information, and security

Security officers account for over half of the Louvre’s 2,000-member staff. They are responsible for greeting the public and ensuring its safety as well as that of the artworks, and  the museum buildings and equipment, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Louvre is open every day (except Tuesday) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Night opening until 9:45 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays
 
Closed on the following holidays: January 1, May 1, December 25
