The Musée du Louvre is an EPA, or Etablissement Public Administratif, a status that gives it administrative autonomy. Although the museum is largely financed by the state, it also relies on other sources of income, which make up more than a third of its budget. The Musée du Louvre relies on the generosity of its patrons and donors to carry out many of its missions and projects.

The new Department of Islamic Art galleries

The project of creating the new Department of Islamic Art galleries is the biggest construction site of museographic development since the Pyramid of I.M. Pei. The construction began in 2008 and should end at the end of 2012.
