Why Support the Louvre?

The Louvre is the largest and most international museum in the world. Its professionalism as a partner is widely recognized.
The world's leading museum
1. Its collections—unique in terms of both their depth and breadth—contain such world-famous masterpieces as the Mona Lisa, the Winged Victory of Samothrace, and the Venus de Milo.
2. The Louvre, a medieval fortress that became a splendid palace for French kings, is a magnificent architectural ensemble, a witness to eight centuries of French history.
3. The Louvre is unquestionably one of the most prestigious vehicles for the image of France around the world.
4. Each year, prestigious high-profile events, such as temporary exhibitions and inaugurations of new galleries, are the subject of regular and widespread coverage in the media.
5. The Grand Louvre project, carried out from 1981 to 2004, modernized the museum, doubling both its exhibition space and its attendance figures in twelve years.

The world's most international museum
6. Some 64% of the Louvre's visitors are from outside France: 22% are from the Americas, 50% from Europe, and 11% from Asia.
7. Through loans of its works to museums around the world, it plays a role in a large number of the leading exhibitions organized in major Western capitals.
8. The Louvre regularly organizes presentations of its collections in countries as far away as Japan, the United States, Taiwan, and Brazil—and, in the near future, Australia and China.
9. The Louvre has led to the creation of international membership programs, including the Grand Louvre au Japon and American Friends of the Louvre.
10. The Louvre is currently examining the possibility of major, long-term partnerships with institutions in the United States and Japan.

Professionalism
11. The Louvre is an EPA, or Etablissement Public Administratif, a status that gives it administrative autonomy. Although the museum is largely financed by the state, it also relies on other sources of income, which make up more than a third of its budget.
12. The Louvre was the first cultural establishment to sign a COM, or Contrat d'Objectifs et de Moyens, with the state, which covers the years 2003 to 2005. This contract has become the backbone of the museum's objective-based management method, which involves monitoring management indicators and regular reporting.
13. Sponsorship at the Louvre is handled by the Department of Development, which is staffed by a dozen people. Your company will have a dedicated contact person, who will respond rapidly to your questions.
14. The Louvre has extensive experience in managing ambitious sponsorship projects, such as the restoration of the Galerie d'Apollon, financed by Total, and the reorganization of the Salle des Etats, which was carried out in partnership with Nippon Television. This experience enables the museum to offer such benefits as enhanced visibility and prestige, the loan of museum spaces for receptions, and private events for the employees of partner companies.

A museum that doesn't purchase works of art is a dead museum. The enrichment of its collections through new acquisitions is a central part of the life of a museum.
