The Louvre Pyramid at twenty

The Louvre pays tribute to Ieoh Ming Pei with a special series of events during the month of April 2009.

Evening event: “Young People on Stage” - Friday, April 3 from 7 p.m.
The Louvre invites you to lend an ear to and converse with students from two leading Paris institutions—the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse and the Ecole du Louvre—while following an architectural and musical itinerary through some of the most captivating spaces in the palace: Medieval Louvre, Cour Marly, Cour Puget, Galerie Médicis, and Grande Galerie, among others.

Voices of Youth - Saturday, April 4 from 3 p.m.
In honor of the introduction of free admission for youths between the ages of 18 and 25, forty students from the Ecole du Louvre will share with you their knowledge of and passion for the works of their choice.

Projection of the work Xenon for Paris by the American artist Jenny Holzer on the pyramid and the facades of the Cour Napoléon - Tuesday, April 7 and Thursday, April 9 from 8:30 p.m. to midnight, Wednesday, April 8 and Friday, April 10 from 10 p.m. to midnight
This projected work, first shown in 2001 at several Parisian monuments (Louvre, Pont Neuf, Panthéon, Eglise Sainte-Eustache) and then acquired by the Fonds national de l'art contemporain, is re-presented on the facades of the Cour Napoléon and on the pyramid. Written between 1977 and 2001, the xenon-projected poetic texts speak of the intimate arena of human relationships, from seduction to violent clashes between bodies.

Special “Musée-Musées” symposium in the Auditorium du Louvre celebrating Ieoh Ming Pei and his pyramid - Wednesday, April 8 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“The Grand Louvre twenty years on: Contemporary architects and the history of museums”
Morning session: The pyramid and the Grand Louvre (1981–1989): A contemporary entrance for a traditional museum With Ieoh Ming Pei, Michel Laclotte, Yann Weymouth, Stephen Rustow, Michel Macary, Chien Chung Pei, Jean-Michel Wilmotte, and Vincent Pomarède.
Afternoon session: Which issues are raised in today’s renovation projects? With Rafael Moneo, David Chipperfield, and Joost Moolhuijzen.

Event in the series “Face to Face” - Friday, April 10 at 8 p.m.
Jenny Holzer: The medium, the message, and public space
Projection of video works by the artist, followed by an exchange between Joan Simon, art historian and Curator-at-Large, Whitney Museum, New York and Marie-Laure Bernadac, Curator in Charge of
Contemporary Art, Musée du Louvre.

Event in the “Films of the Louvre” series in the Auditorium du Louvre - Wednesday, April 15 at 8 p.m.
To celebrate the pyramid’s twentieth anniversary, the Louvre presents a selection of its recent audiovisual productions:

Come visit the Tuileries Gardens - From April to September, Saturdays and Sundays at 3:30 p.m.
Guided walking tour, lasting one and a half hours, led by the garden superintendants, exploring the events and anecdotes of the Tuileries’ storied past and present. Meet at 3:30 p.m. at the foot of the Arc de Triomphe of the Carrousel du Louvre, Saturdays and Sundays, free of charge.

Experimental and interactive multimedia tour Mustrek - Fridays, April 10, 17 and 24 from 6 p.m.
