Watch demo

Since October 2008, our site features a new host: Dominique-Vivant Denon. The first director of the museum has been brought back to life as an animated character! He has a multitude of stories to tell about the museum and its contents, together with anecdotes from his travels, and he'll help both children and adults explore the Louvre Web site! He will also entice young and old into his workshop—an Aladdin's cave of treasures and memories.
Just click on Dominique's head (top right-hand corner) and he'll pop up all over the place to give you some practical info, suggestions for your visit, and facts and figures about the museum. He'll tell you the kind of things people don't usually tell you about the secret life of the artworks. You'll learn the full history of these artworks when you open the description pages. Of course it's not always easy to find your way through 2000 such pages. So as you navigate through the Web site, you'll discover various objects such as a mouse, a hat, or even a banana. Click on them to hear the stories!

Dominique-Vivant Denon lives in his workshop; click on the trap-door to the left to enter. Feel free to explore—as long as you don't mess everything up! Have a look in Dominique's book: it's full of amazing stories about the artworks. In the portfolio next to his writing desk, you'll find the list of story-telling objects. There are always lots of things lying around in Dominique's workshop so watch out–you might be in for a surprise!

Tips to remember:
- to switch to Lupicatulus mode, click on the head icon, at the top of the page.
- to enter the workshop, click on the trap-door.
- when you get to a page you have already discovered, you can hear the corresponding anecdote or tale again by clicking on Dominique.
- if you need help, click on the compass icon at the bottom of the page.
