Resources, Study, and Research
This section does not contain any artwork description.
The Dominique-Vivant Denon Research Center is a new research facility available to museum professionals, researchers, and anyone interested in the history of the Louvre and of museums. It provides a broad spectrum of users with a wide range of resources on four key themes—architecture, museography, the missions of the museum, and its audiences—and contributes to the development of research projects on these subjects.
Regular Friday events are scheduled at the center as part of a program called Les Vendredis Dominique-Vivant Denon. Academic events, organized to highlight the activities of the center, the museum, and its partners, are aligned with the program of the Louvre Auditorium.
The resource center provides a wide range of documents, with works on the Louvre, on the presentation of its collections, and on art history in general. Other works in its collection concern cultural practices, art education, museology, the history of museums, and the economy and sociology of culture.
In partnership with the research centers in the Louvre’s curatorial departments, the resource center provides bibliographical information and advice for a broad range of users. It contributes to the conservation of special collections—such as the Auditorium’s audio and audiovisual recordings—and makes them available for consultation.
