Exhibition Rhodes, a Greek Island and Gateway to the East

from July 10, 2015 to November 15, 2015

Acknowledgments:
This exhibition was made possible thanks to the support of Ipsen.

This exhibition sheds light on the cultural diversity of Rhodes, as well as the wealth of Rhodian art and local craftsmanship.

Famous as the former site of the Colossus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, Rhodes had a unique destiny from earliest antiquity. Enriched by the meeting of Greek, Levantine, Egyptian, and Anatolian cultures, Rhodes is also a source of fascination by virtue of the European history of excavations conducted by French, English, Danish, Italian, and Greek archaeologists.

Organized by:

Anne Coulié, Musée du Louvre, and Mélina Filimonos-Tsopotou, 22nd Ephorate of Antiquities, Rhodes.
