Near Eastern Antiquities

The department's documentary resources focus on the history and the geographical divisions of the collections, as well as the latest news in the discipline.

Available resources

MuseumPlus: database of over 64,600 digitized artworks and approximately 7,000 artwork files. Paper files are also composed of comparison artwork files (sales catalogue texts, bibliographic references, etc.), subject-specific files (history of the department, archaelogical sites, biographies, etc.), and over 9,000 offprints.
The photography collection on the department's artworks. It also contains photographs of comparison artworks, archaeological sites, and rooms in the museum. A substantial collection of glass plate negatives (approximately 10,000) and slides can be consulted on site.
Archival collection: mainly composed of correspondence, archaeological excavation reports, and maps.

The Near Eastern archaeology heritage library contains over 9,000 books and 360 periodical titles, as well as nearly 300 dissertations and academic research papers. All of the holdings pertain to Near Eastern archaeology, in connection with the disciplines of the department. It is part of a large research library on antiquities and Islamic art: the Bibliothèque Lefuel.
