The Musée du Louvre is an EPA, or Etablissement Public Administratif, a status that gives it administrative autonomy. Although the museum is largely financed by the state, it also relies on other sources of income, which make up more than a third of its budget. The Musée du Louvre relies on the generosity of its patrons and donors to carry out many of its missions and projects.

This past November, the Louvre issued an appeal for donations of an unprecedented scale for the acquisition of a Renaissance masterpiece: The Three Graces, by Lucas Cranach the Elder. The rarity, beauty and exceptional condition of the artwork warranted such an outstanding effort from the museum.
The Crown Bronzes – Collection of Louis XIV

The Musée du Louvre announces the acquisition of two bronzes from the Crown Bronze collection, listed as French National Treasures, for the Department of Decorative Arts: Mars Giving up His Arms by Michel Anguier (1614–1686), and the Medici Venus, made in Florence in the 17th century.
