Room Galerie Médicis,Flandres

Richelieu wing - 2nd floor - Room 801 - Rubens: the Galerie Médicis

Flemish painting

The twenty-four monumental canvases displayed here were originally housed in the Luxembourg palace, home of the Italian-born French queen Marie de Médicis. Painted by Rubens between 1622 and 1625, they depict episodes from the queen's life, magnified by the presence of gods from ancient mythology.
