Fall 2012 exhibition: Late Raphael
From October 11, 2012 to January 7, 2013, Napoleon Hall, beneath the Pyramid

Raffaelo Sani, dit Raphaël, Autoportrait avec un ami
© RMN : G. Blot
In partnership with the Prado Museum, the Louvre presents for the first time works created by Raphael in Rome during the final years of his short life, a period of stylistic fulfilment that, along with the work of Michelangelo, represents the height of the Italian Renaissance. The exhibition brings together altarpieces, paintings for private worship, official and personal portraits, and a selection of Raphael’s finest drawings to illustrate the artist’s extraordinary creativity, flawless touch and incomparable sense of grace. Other works by some of the greatest painters Raphael surrounded himself with, particularly Giulio Romano and Gianfrancesco Penni, will also be on display.
