A major figure in contemporary flamenco, visionary dancer and unclassifiable choreographer Israel Galván is the guest of honour of the Louvre’s Spanish Weekend. He has imagined for the Louvre an unprecedented representation beneath the Pyramid, transformed into a vibrant plaza de toros for one night.

Surrounded by Andalusian palmeros, the artist presents a performance of rare intensity, in which rhythm, gesture and voice enter into a dialogue with the masterpieces displayed in the exhibitions ‘Zurbarán’ and ‘Sculpting Colour’. Striking a balance between popular fervour and spirituality, this exceptional production draws a parallel between the expressive power of flamenco and the paintings of the Spanish master as well as the sculptures from the national museum in Valladolid.
At the end of the performance, both exhibitions will exceptionally open their doors to the public, allowing visitors to continue the experience by exploring the artworks on display.
