• How many people can visit per group (pupils and leaders included)?

  Self-guided group visits are intended for groups under the guidance and responsibility of a group leader (certified tour guide with card, teacher, or CLEF/CLEF+ cardholder having completed the museum education requirements). Any group without such a group leader present, or with a group leader without official permission to give tours, will be refused admission with no possibility of reimbursement for its reservation fee or the associated group participant entry fees.

  Large group: a group of up to 20 participants, with paid or free entry, accompanied by a group leader. A large group may not exceed 21 people, including the group leader. 

  Small group: a group of up to 6 participants, with paid or free entry, accompanied by a group leader. A small group may not exceed 7 participants, including the group leader. 
   

• What are my rights and responsibilities as group leader during the visit?

  Group leaders, with or without a tour guide, must ensure that all group members respect the museum regulations for visitors. Running, shouting, and touching the artworks are prohibited in the museum.

  Public speaking and group presentations are prohibited in the Salle des États (room 711). Groups are also prohibited from standing together along the sides of the room. Groups are permitted to cross the room together without blocking foot traffic.

  Group visits may last for up to 3 hours. Once the visit has ended, all group members must leave the museum. Group members are not permitted to continue their visits individually. The group leader must accompany all group members to the exit.

• May I speak publicly to my group in the museum?

  Individuals with the right to speak publicly may speak publicly to their group inside the museum’s galleries. 
  By virtue of article 15 of the Musée du Louvre’s museum regulations for visitors, the right to speak publicly is automatically granted to holders of a certified French tour guide card (carte de guide-conférencier) conferred according to the applicable regulatory conditions of article L221-1 of the French Code of Tourism; guides from French national museums; curators of French or foreign museums with professional ID; CMN lecturers; teaching staff and TDO leaders from the École du Louvre and French or foreign teachers leading their students; and Carte CLEF and CLEF+ holders for an audience classed as ‘priority’ by the museum, provided they have undergone the appropriate training.

  The right to speak publicly is granted when a group booking is made. Individual admission tickets must also be booked for each group member.

• There is a disabled person in our group. Where can I go for assistance?

  Special equipment is available for children and disabled visitors at the visitor assistance area (wheelchairs, prams, etc.). If you have any problems, please speak to a member of staff under the Pyramid or at the group reception area. Please find all the information in the 'Accessibility' pages.

• How should I enter the museum with my group?

  On the day of your visit, go to one of our group entrances with your reservation, your certified tour guide card, and one ticket per group member.

  Which entrance you use depends on the size of your group: 

  • Large groups (7 to 20 participants):  Large groups should check in at the group reception area counter under the Pyramid before starting their visit to pick up their tour guide’s authorisation to speak publicly. To ensure the most enjoyable visit for everyone, tour guides and group members must bring their own headphones. Groups without headphones will not be admitted.
  • Small groups (1 to 6 participants): Small groups do not need to check in at the group reception area. They may enter the museum directly via the Porte des Lions entrance.
