The Short-toed Treecreeper is a small bird with a slender, down-curved bill that climbs up tree trunks in search of insects and larvae hidden in crevices under the bark. It spirals up the tree trunk with short hops.
Two or three pairs nest every year in the Grand Couvert of the Tuileries Garden.
In 2022, during annual cleaning of the nest boxes installed in the garden, one or two pairs of Treecreepers were found to have used nest boxes designed for Blue Tits.
Since 2024, the Tuileries gardeners have built and installed targeted nest boxes designed for this particular species.
